scrapbooking

Everyone should have a hobby to help them relax. For some it may be collecting unique bottles or antique vases. For others it may be scrapbooking. Putting together your own scrapbook pages is a great way to relax and have a way to display your pictures. Anyone of any age can put together simple scrapbooks. It just takes some time, some careful cutting and a few supplies. In no time, you can be on your way to creating a scrapbook prepared just the way you like it.

The great thing about scrapbooking is that you do not have to have any experience and anyone over the age of five can make a scrapbook album. If you have the right scrapbook paper, an album and even the right rubber stamping equipment you can begin making your one-of-a kind creation. The most important part of the whole album will be the pictures which you already have.

You can find many pre-made scrapbook pages at a scrapbook store. If you do not have one located close to you, you can always find scrapbook supplies at your local Hobby Lobby or Michael’s Craft Store. You can also go online to Ebay and find scrapbook supplies for a very reasonable amount. The shipping and handling charges should not be much either. While you are there look for the right tools to help make the job easier.

There are certain scrapbooking tools that you will need to have in order to get started. You will need the right cutters, scissors and stickers to add accents to each of your pictures. You may also want to invest in some special pens that will not fade or damage the scrapbook album in any way. These pens come in a variety of colors and inks so they will look fantastic in your scrapbook album.

Scrapbooking can be the best hobby you will ever find if you take the time required for the assembly. People of all ages scrapbook each day and find enjoyment in simply remembering the fond times when they rediscover their old pictures. You will have a blast writing captions and making notes of great vacations, family events and pictures of everyone you love. It is easy as can be so get started on it soon!

Vellum Paper Twist for Scrapbooking Theme Books

June 22nd, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

Scrapbooking theme books make great presents and are easy to put together. My friend, Celine, put this whole theme book together in just a matter of hours! Her daughter has a cute little kitten that she just loves. Celine first gathered all the pictures of the cat that she could find. After that, she set al the pictures up in a way that it followed all of the cat's adventures and told a complete story. Celine then used vellum paper in her printer and text templates from the internet to make the cat’s funny sayings for each page. I didn't know cats could talk!!!! How wonderful and Funny!!

Finally, Celine decided on a common color scheme for the album and used these same colors on every page. Using scrapbook page templates to arrange the pictures, she pasted together the background. She next added mats to the pictures, added the text boxes and a few embellishments and voila! The book was finished. Her daughter loved the album so much that Celine's next project is an album for her daughter's new puppy!!! Celine has already been shopping around for the perfect embellishments that will surely make this new dog album a favorite keepsake.

Some things to remember for theme books:

1)  Always sort through the pictures first and put them in chronological order.

2)  Use a common color theme throughout the album to create continuity.

3)  Keep the pages simple and add embellishments and journaling to add interest.

4) Be sure to try and add humour to your pages.

5)  Add dates and facts (who, what, where, when) so that the album has historical features.

6)  Have fun! Don't get caught up in what you should do, be creative, do what you think is neat and fun.

Theme books are great scrapbooking ideas because they can be started and finished all in one weekend or they can be labeled and added to over time as new pictures are taken. The best thing about theme books is that once you have a theme in mind, you’ll find all kinds of embellishments at home or at the stores that will accent your scrapbook perfectly!

Go Online When You Need No Cost Scrapbook Supplies

June 13th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

Because there are so many Internet-savvy scrapbooking graphic designers today, you can find plenty of free digital scrapbook images online. So if you know how to do an Internet search and download files, you can have an almost endless supply of graphics to create delightful scrapbooks. That’s why famous artist Mary Englebreit recently remarked that the Web is a great source of digital scrapbooking materials that will yield almost anything you might need. And she should know about quality images; products featuring her designs sell like crazy!

The following are some samples of the types of free scrapbooking images I’ve found on the Web:

Antique

More and more people seem to be searching for vintage scrapbooking graphics. Maybe that’s because antique art is so timeless and doesn’t date the final product to any particular modern era. Antique cards make wonderful vintage scrapbook embellishments, as do clip art images from years gone by. And if you’re fortunate enough to find vintage designs on digital scrapbooking papers, you’ll have the best of both worlds. Vintage art also covers a range of subjects, which means you can find images as diverse as vintage travel posters, free vintage flower scrapbook embellishments, tall sailing ships,  magician posters and Victorian fashion illustrations. So whatever the topic of your scrapbook, there’s probably vintage art to match.

Holidays

The holidays are great subjects for scrapbooking, since those are the times we gather with friends and family to create special memories. And Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Valentine’s Day aren’t the only holidays that make people want to create scrapbooks; many people are interested in the minor holidays too. You can find lots of patriotic scrapbooking papers and embellishments on the Internet for holidays such as Veterans Day, Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Flag Day. There are also many images out there for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Earth Day and any other holiday you can think of; even the off-beat and downright bizarre ones.

Floral and Butterfly

I’ve definitely noticed that people who scrapbook love flowers, and why not? They’re appropriate for almost any occasion. Butterflies attract a large audience too, because they bring to mind so many things we love: freedom, summertime and other happy things. Butterfly and flower images are also diverse, because an abundance of them can be found as both illustrations and photos, and in modern and vintage styles. There are even free butterfly scrapbooking papers that have coordinating modern and vintage designs available in the same collections.

Wedding Images

Weddings and scrapbooks were made to go together, because it’s always been a tradition to have a wedding photo album. But a wedding scrapbook can preserve your memories in an even more creative way. There is a surprisingly good selection of wedding scrapbook images on the Internet that will allow you to create a lasting memento for little or no cost. And if you can’t find any specifically for weddings, flower images would also be a great choice.

Babies

As is the case with wedding ceremonies, the birth and growth years of a little one often generate a lot of pictures. And what scrapbooker wouldn’t want to pass down a beautiful baby scrapbook to her child as he or she gets older? Fortunately, you can find a huge selection of scrapbook graphics for babies. If you’re not up on baby images, however, you might be surprised to learn that the colors are less traditional than they used to be. Chocolate brown, burnt orange and red are popular, as are various shades of green. Of course, you can still find lots of blue and pink, but these days there are many bold color choices too.

So the next time you go looking for scrapbook materials, check out what’s available on the Web. You might be pleasantly surprised at the free images you’ll find.

How to Economize on Baby Shower Invitations and Decorations by Using Free Clip Art and Scrapbooking Supplies

June 12th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

Even though the economy isn’t great right now, people still want to throw great baby showers. The key to doing this in a down economy is to save money in areas that won’t be noticed. That can begin with the baby shower invitations and move right on through the shower decorations and the scrapbooks created after the fact.

One way to do that is to find good baby shower clipart. Often there are cool images available on the web for no charge. Just search for “free baby shower clip art,” plus the type of image you want. For example, if you want baby girl clip art, type those words or some variation. The same will work with virtually any theme you can think of, although the more obscure the concept, the less likely it will be that you’ll get enough good search results. If you’re lucky enough to find high resolution art when you search, you’ll open up more options for using it. That’s because that you need high-resolution images for print pieces, such as invitations or decorations. You can’t use low-resolution clipart because the final printed piece would be low quality. That would, of course, be unacceptable for a baby shower invitation, thank you card or decorations.

Baby shower clipart isn’t the only free resource you can find on the ‘Net. You can also find many sites online that offer free baby scrapbooking paper. Many scrapbooking paper and embellishment designers give away no-charge versions of their baby scrapbooking layouts to promote for-sale products or their pages that have advertising. Either of these models give them a financial incentive to offer scrapbook paper and embellishment freebies. Either way, the new mom wins! The themes for these are almost as numerous as there are fish in the sea, so they can be used instead of or in addition to clip art to make shower invitations and decorations. Themes can be about anything, from silly to vintage and retro to luxurious. In case you didn’t know, retro is particularly popular right now, so you might want to try searching for free vintage baby scrapbook embellishments. A mother-to-be who loves this kind of art would probably be so pleased to have it as her shower theme!

It goes without saying that all the clip art, scrapbook papers and embellishments can also be used to preserve baby shower memories forever in a scrapbook that can be given to the mother-to-be. This means the time you spend looking for images will pay off over and over, giving the new mom a baby shower she’ll remember always.
